A one-week road trip through Kyushu. I was looking forward to long coastal drives, volcanoes, onsen baths and lots of delicious meals.
I never expected that I’d be constantly taking my phone out to take pictures of toilets.
Bidet toilets everywhere
If you’ve ever been to Japan, you know that you’ll often see bidet toilets at hotels. I expected the same – but something else surprised me.
I almost always found bidet toilets wherever I went. At hotels, restaurants, public toilets and rest areas. And not just in the cities.
The further I travelled through Kyushu, the more I noticed bidet toilets in towns that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere.
And it eventually became a kind of game. Instead of wondering: “Is there a bidet toilet here?”, it was more like “Which model will I find behind this door?”
What do you think?
