That’s Life Anew
WASHLET® and me

Japan started hosting EXPO 2025 on 13 April 2025 – and Yumeshima Island will be home to visionary ideas, innovative technologies and forward-looking concepts until 13 October 2025. As Japan’s best-known producer of bathroom products and an official Bronze Sponsor, TOTO is also there. The company is taking this excellent opportunity to introduce Japan’s high standards of sanitary culture to people around the world – providing several facilities throughout the fairgrounds where guests can experience unparalleled hygiene and comfort.

A platform for tomorrow’s society

The theme of EXPO 2025 is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”. The event explores the questions of how we want to live, work and interact with each other in future. In times of global challenges like climate change, health crises and digital transformation, this exposition serves as a platform to promote dialogue and the sharing of potential solutions.

Around 160 countries and international organisations are represented with their own pavilions. The show focuses on three main themes:

  • Saving Lives – health and prevention
  • Empowering Lives – education, diversity, societal involvement
  • Connecting Lives – digitalisation, mobility and collaboration

Yumeshima: A location gains new meaning

EXPO 2025 is being held on Yumeshima, an artificial island located in Osaka Bay. Left unused for decades, organisers decided to breathe new life into this space by using these grounds for the world exposition. The site that’s welcoming and inspiring international guests today will continue to focus on innovation, knowledge sharing and quality of life in future as well.

TOTO on site – for lasting comfort

TOTO is found at a number of prominent locations throughout the Expo grounds – elevating pavilions with their innovative sanitary solutions:

TOTO also supplied four relaxation areas, eight public toilets as well as facilities at the Yumeshima metro station with toilets, urinals, WASHLET models, washbasins and faucets.

Taking healthcare to the next level: Osaka Healthcare Pavilion

Themed “Reborn”, the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion explores the question of how to make healthcare more holistic, individualized and sustainable in future. At seven interactive stations, visitors can experience how medical innovations impact people’s well-being and social participation.

In addition to presenting their products, TOTO is also responsible for the planning and realization of the toilet facilities in this pavilion. The company took the perspectives of 22 “troubleshooters” – people with very different physical limitations who served as consultants. They contributed their everyday experiences to the development of these spaces, calling attention to needs often overlooked in conventional bathroom design.

The result: truly inclusive, accessible sanitary facilities that show how intentional design meets technological innovation to set new standards.

Tradition meets vision: the Japan Pavilion

The Japan Pavilion represents more than just the host country – it also showcases Japan’s vision of a future society with a high quality of life. The architecture, content and design are inspired by traditional Japanese values like harmony, mindfulness and respect for people and nature.

The main idea behind the pavilion is an infinite circle: Everything is connected, nothing ends entirely. Instead, life transforms itself, goes beyond, continues on. Plants, animals, things, even entire societies are part of this cyclical development. The Japan Pavilion invites people to reflect on the significance of these connections – between lives, generations and ideas.

TOTO also identifies with this philosophy of the circle, designing sanitary solutions that help make everyday hygiene more environmentally conscious. Products like WASHLET are more than just high-tech – they’re also developed to use water efficiently. This is just one example of how TOTO brings comfort and hygiene to the responsible use of natural resources – in the spirit of the pavilion and Japanese ingenuity overall.

Hygiene – an important part of the future

Participating in EXPO 2025 is more than just a technical partnership for TOTO – it represents a holistic understanding of everyday comfort, health and sustainability. With technologies like WASHLET, TOTO shows how gentle warm water cleansing and intentional design can set new standards – at EXPO 2025 and beyond.
