Clerkenwell Design Week

TOTO participated in the leading London festival, Clerkenwell Design Week 2025, May 20–22, the festival took place throughout London’s EC1 district transforming it into a vibrant hub of creativity, innovation, and architectural splendour. Clerkenwell is an area known for its community of architects and designers and its growing synergy with leading manufacturers and suppliers; it has been TOTO’s UK home since 2010.

The majestic backdrop for our latest installation was at The Charterhouse which dates back to the 14th century. By contrast we showcased our most 21st century technology including the very latest NEOREST WX in Matte Black and Matte White with flush plates and taps in the magnificent Great Chamber.  This unique and atmospheric room is a space filled with history and tradition complete with Old Masters, a grand piano and monumental, ancient and architectural detailing. Our elegant stand proved to be a real hit with visitors too who experienced a true Japanese welcome in a small but perfectly formed area.

Our guests were visibly impressed by how we had combined the traditional and modern together offering inspiration to interior designers and architects alike. Our stand had been creatively reconstructed from our original Tea House and will be returned to its former use at the London showroom to ensure we reuse as much as possible. The venue also hosted the festival’s official talks series within a theatre designed by London-based studio Kapitza, which added to the conversation in the Great Chamber.

The adjacent Charterhouse Square featured the sculptor, Alex Chinneck’s brick masterpiece entitled A Week at the Knees. Known for his inventive architectural work, this artwork paid homage to a classic Georgian house but with a humorous twist and a curving façade. It comprised of 7000 bricks and 320 metres of steel - all the materials were salvaged and reused from building sites across London.

Back at the TOTO showroom, we offered visitors an opportunity to discover all our latest WASHLET in Matte Black and Matte White alongside our new window display, featuring a great wave and snow-capped mountain, this highlighted the Shiro-Kuro theme, (meaning black and white in Japanese). In addition to all of this we worked with London-based HowMatcha to create a specially curated bespoke matcha cocktail made with delicious cherry cordial and rhubarb tonic water - the perfect Japanese and English combination - our guests were queuing down the street!

As regular exhibitors at Clerkenwell Design Week it was great for TOTO to be part of this year’s expansion into new locations with increasing visitor footfall. We met new clients, caught up with existing ones, engaged in more design conversations, especially around our newly launched products. It really was a celebration of international design.
